breaking news
Four baby ducks needed help last night as they found themselves eight feet under ground. With the help of friends, one local woman took it upon herself to help rescue the little ducklings.
Four little baby ducks will swim on thanks to a local woman. The males were all chasing their mothers and they were looking for shelter and ran across there and fell in. The ducklings fell into an 8 foot deep drain at Garvin Park while running from the other ducks, and their little wings couldnt get them back to the top, no matter how hard they tried.
Karen Seal called 9-1-1. Dispatchers told her they couldnt do anything, but that a conservation officer would check on the ducks in the morning. For Seal, waiting until morning would be too long. So she decided to take measures into her own hands, and climbed down the drain herself. "I could see the bottom and I could see the crawdads that were in there. The only scary thing is that it goes all the way through the park and I didnt know what was in there." Despite doing something that Seal says, the city should have taken care of, she is glad the ducks are safe. "We saved the babies so its all good."
The Director of Transportation and Services, Ed Zeimer, says they received a call earlier about ducks being trapped in the same drain. They sent a dispatcher to check on the ducks, and found nothing. He also said they never received a call last night reporting the trapped ducks.
