Americans Fear High Gas Prices Here To Stay
(Princeton, NJ) -- A new Gallup poll shows the vast majority of Americans believe higher gas prices are here to stay.
When asked if the price increases are permanent, 78-percent said yes.
Its the highest reading since Gallup started asking about gas prices in 2000.
The previous high mark came just after Hurricane Katrina.
Currently, just under 20-percent think the price hike is temporary.
Over half of Americans believe the price of gas will reach six bucks a gallon at some point over the next five years. Some 71-percent say rising gas prices are causing a hardship.
Gallup points out the hardship level is no higher than it was in 2005 and may be an indication Americans are adjusting or just accepting high gas prices as a regular part of life.
