A formal protest could derail the construction of two new schools in Vanderburgh County.
Members of the Vanderburgh County Taxpayers Association filed a petition Wednesday morning with county officials.
It could force the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation to fight for its recently passed $149 million strategic plan.
That plan calls for construction of two new north side schools and massive educational investments.
If petitioners file properly, Indiana law will allow them to enter into a signature race with the school corporation.
If they collect more signatures opposing the strategic plan than the EVSC collects in favor of it, the plan would have to be halted for at least one year.
