Gardening is the most popular hobby in America. But surprisingly many gardens can be harmful to the environment. Responsible gardening not only requires a green thumb but a "green" approach. Many of the products we spray on our plants are not only bad for the earth theyre bad for us. Experts tell us certain chemicals used in everyday gardening can bother your fish, animals, it can even affect your drinking water eventually and they can do neurological damage. Composting is one of the best ways to go natural and green in your garden. And, you dont have to live on a farm to get your hands on compost or manure. You can buy bags of the stuff at your local nursery and its not expensive. Its the fertilizer nature intended and youll be surprised how your tomatoes will take off. While youre at it, dont throw those table scraps in the garbage, throw them on your garden. Experts say the easiest thing to know about composting is that compost is anything that was once alive. It will all rot down and that way all the minerals and nutrients that were in there will all go back and absorb into the soil. Your grass clippings have value as well. They make nutritious mulch for your trees and plants. Garden experts say you don’t need expensive and dangerous pesticides to control bugs either.
