Costs Of Ammo Impacting Law Enforcement

Rising Costs Of Ammo Impacting Law Enforcement (Tombstone, AZ) -- Shooters, gun dealers and law enforcement officials across the U.S. are feeling the effects of the high cost of ammunition due to rising metal prices. Costs of ammo for many popular guns have tripled over the last three years as Chinas industrialization is helping to drive prices upward. The Asian countrys growth is also leading it to buy millions of tons of copper, zinc and lead used for making brass shell casings in bullets. One gun dealer says the price for a case of one-thousand rounds of assault rifle ammo has risen from 80-dollars to 250-dollars. A box of nine millimeter shells has gone from ten-dollars to 17-dollars. China isnt the only factor in the soaring costs of ammunition. Law enforcement officials say the militarys demand for the limited supplies are impacting their ammunition needs. Some sheriffs departments say they are having to dip into reserves. They also contend that they face the danger of being faced with individuals who have higher armament capacities than their departments. (Copyright 2008 by Newsroom Solutions) RNS-05-20-08 0917CDT
