How you can help: Drop off donations at Arbors of Eastland. Theyre accepting items such as clothing, food, toiletries, bedding, and much more. 6649 Old Boonville Hwy Evansville, IN 47715 (812) 476-8100 Amber Chaffin, a single mother of three, with no renters insurance lost nearly everything. A fund is set up in Chaffins name at Fifth-Third Bank. 812- 474-2734 The family who thought they lost everything in a weekend fire are finding that some of their belongings are salvageable. The apartment building near interstate 1-64 and Morgan Avenue was so badly damaged on Sunday, they werent allowed back in, but thanks to some volunteers, things are looking up. Knight Township Volunteer Firefighters were able to throw shoes, clothing, and even books down to residents, giving reason to celebrate. Some, like Amber Chaffin, theres no reason to cheer. The single mother of three, with no renters insurance, is left wondering whats to come. Chaffin: "Its been rough. Its been real rough." The fire is said to be electrical. Apparently a staple pushed through a wire is what caused the initial spark. Residents say the fire alarm didnt even sound. A spokesperson for the complex had no comment on the alleged faulty wiring, or whether theyll conduct inspections on the remainder of the property. They did say, theyre collecting donations for families who dont have much left.
