Kentucky educators are celebrating a significant drop in the high school drop out rate. But that improvement has not translated to more Kentuckians going on to college. The state is turning to "The Three Rs" for help. No more teachers and no more books. These students are out for the summer. The seniors are especially eager to wrap up their high school careers. And a recent study shows more Kentucky teens are making it to their senior year as drop out rates have dropped five percent from the year 2000. But education officials see another trend they dont like. "Where we have problems is getting kids into college and graduating, thats the big issue in Kentucky" High school senior Josh Edge says that could be because students need better preparation for college life. "Theres a huge jump in difficulty from high school to college and I think that some students just arent ready for it." The school system is trying a new approach it hopes will address that issue. Its called "The Three Rs", Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships. "Rigor, kids dont want to be bored, they want to be challenged, Relevance, kids have to know why what they are learning is important and then theres nothing like Relationships."
