Another piece in the puzzle of the downtown Evansville revitalization plan is unveiled.
Stratmans Pharmacy is expanding its services to meet the needs of downtown residents--and hopefully entice more people to move near the riverfront.
John Stratman annouced unveiled plans for an expanded grocery as well as the Low Cost RX Club for generic prescriptions.
Stratman says hes been getting a lot of calls of people wanting more of a grocery selection at the store.
He hopes this will be a great service to downtown residents and entice more to live in the area.
Mayor Weinzapfel attended a press conference where Stratman made the announcement. The mayor said "in a way, the Stratman family has been a bell weather of what the future holds for downtown"
While Stratman says he cant compete with the low prices of big grocery chains, the rising cost of gas will make his prices more competitive.
Stratman: "The mentality has been to drive across town to save two or three dollars, well with the price of gas, thats not an option in a lot of cases"
Stratmans has been operating downtown for more than 20 years--today marks the pharmacys 10th anniversary at its location on 4th and main.
John Stratman says as the residential mix changes--so will the stores services--but hopes the new expansion is part of the antidote downtown needs to thrive.
