breaking news
The library is normally a pretty quiet place, but not on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Here, kids are stretching their minds and their vocal chords.
By morning, theyre children, but come 3:30... fierce pirates on the high seas. At least, today. Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library leaders say they saw a gap in community music programs more than two years ago and applied for a grant from the Heinrich Foundation. They received it, and the Music Mania program was born. Theres a new musical theme every Wednesday and Friday throughout the summer. Kids like Eme Elleser may not know it, but programs like Music Mania enhance kids educational, physical, an emotional development.
Thats because music stimulates the body and mind, crucial for continuing to learn throughout the summer. And music has been shown to improve a childs spatial IQ, which is necessary to solve complex mathematic problems later on. But for right now, its just fun to come sing with your friends.
Music mania runs every Wednesday and Friday at 3:30 at the Central Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library branch. Occasionally they take the program on the road to other branches. Check with your nearest library for more information.
