Four Killed, More Than 40 Scouts Hurt After Iowa Tornado
(Glencoe, IA) -- Four Boy Scouts are dead and more than 40 others are hurt after a tornado ripped through their campground in western Iowa yesterday evening.
Iowa Department of Public Safety spokesman Jim Saunders says 42 Scouts were hospitalized after the tornado tore through the Little Sioux Scout Ranch.
Saunders says a search continues this morning to make sure that no non-scouting campers were in the area.
He says all 93 scouts and 23 camp staffers have been accounted for.
The governors of Iowa and Nebraska are on the scene this morning as are members of the Iowa National Guard.
The scouts are all members of the Mid-America Council, which includes children from Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.
The scouts were taking part in a week-long leadership camp.
The scouts are between the ages of 13 and 18.
