Shower Curtains Could Be Releasing Toxic Chemicals
That new shower curtain smell could be bad for your health.
The "Los Angeles Times" reports certain vinyl curtains could be releasing toxins that are seriously bad for the body.
A report released by the Virginia-based Center for Health, Environment & Justice says the chemicals can cause problems in the liver, the central nervous, respiratory and reproductive systems.
One of the reports authors says the smell can make people feel sick, have a headache and become nauseous.
The researchers took several unopened plastic shower curtains and found as many as 108 volatile organic compounds were being released into the air.
The curtains are found in stores such as Target, Wal-mart, Sears and Bed, Bath & Beyond.
Some of these stores have started to offer shower curtains made of other materials and the researchers urge consumers to buy these instead.
