Earlier this week, Governor Rod Blagojevich declared Lawrence and five other counties in southern Illinois state disaster areas.
The Governor visited the Lawrenceville area Friday afternoon to get a look for himself.
He told residents that when the state is ready to ask for federal support, they will set up support teams throughout the six counties, collect damage reports and then send it to the federal government.
One of those residents, Terry Patrick, believes southeast Illinois should get the same attention during natural disasters as all other areas of the state.
For now, officials say that homes, farms and businesses will be assessed in the area.
Home owners are reminded to keep important documents on all their losses.
