The State Fire Marshals office says the cause of a fire that killed a rural Posey County woman Sunday will go down as undetermined.
Investigators say too much of the home was destroyed to figure out what started the blaze.
However they say there is no indication of foul play.
The fire killed Barbara Geiss.
It broke out around 4:30 Sunday morning on Farmersville Road near Mt. Vernon.
Investigators say a man was staying in the house with Geiss and he tried to pull her to safety through a window, but he couldnt do it.
Reported 6/15:
One woman is dead as the result of a house fire in Posey County.
Black Township firefighters were first on the scene on Farmersville Road around 4:30 this morning.
Four more departments assisted.
Nearby neighbors awoke to the sound of sirens and a bright red sky.
After the flames were extinguished, the body of 66-year old Barbara Geiss was found.
An autospy determined she died of smoke inhalation.
A man living in the house made it out okay.
Fire officials are still looking in to what caused the fire, but do not believe it to be suspicious in nature.
