The company that owns Casino Aztar says its too soon to say whether or not there will be another round of layoffs. The city was told at least 70 jobs would be eliminated from the casino, but company officials say those numbers arent set in stone. Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel is demanding an investigation by the states Gaming Commission. If the layoffs occur, theyll come just months after 20 positions were eliminated when the casinos gaming license was transferred to Columbia Sussex. Those layoffs were agreed upon...but the city, and the Gaming Commission, says additional cutbacks were never part of the plan. As of right now, theres no timeline for when the layoffs would occur. Columbia Sussex is scheduled to sit down with the states Gaming Commission next week.
