Heritage Coal Company has been cited by the Kentucky Division of Mine Reclamation and Enforcement for alleged violations of a black water spill
A rupture in a buried slurry line caused the release.
Heritage Coal closed off the line Friday night as soon as the spill was detected.
An employee of the Energy and Environement Cabinet observed the release at the junction of Casey Creek and Highway 141 near the Waverly community in Union County.
The slurry did not reach the Ohio River nor has it affected any water intakes
