Indiana Summary City-County Councilor Arrested (Indianapolis) -- Metro Police report that City-County Councilwoman Doris Minton-McNeill was arrested Sunday evening for allegedly assaulting a police officer. Police say that Minton-McNeill physically ran into a police officer that arrived at a residence on Medford Avenue to investigate a disturbance involving a man with a knife. The woman identified herself as Minton-McNeill. She was arrested on preliminary charges of battery on a police officer and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors. --- Formal Charges To Be Filed Against Accused Bank Robbery Suspects (Indianapolis) -- Police say the two men accused of shooting a pregnant bank teller are expected to be charged today. Twenty-nine-year-old Brian Kendrick and 28-year-old Aaron Stewart were arrested last week. Police say the two participated in a robbery at the Huntington National Bank in the two-thousand block of North Post Road that caused 30-year-old Katherin Shuffield to lose her unborn twins. --- Mobile Healthcare Unit To Help Columbus Hospital (Columbus) -- A Columbus hospital is getting help from an out-of-state source. An emergency mobile unit from North Carolina arrived on Sunday to provide healthcare to patients who would normally go to Columbus Regional Hospital. MED 1 consists of two 53-foot long tractor-trailers parked in the hospitals parking lot, and includes a trauma center. Columbus Regional Hospital was closed two weeks ago because of damaged caused by flooding. --- Indiana Democrats hold State Convention In Indianapolis (Indianapolis) -- Hundreds of Democratic delegates met at the downtown Marriott on Saturday for the Democratic State Convention. Among the speakers at the event was Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Jill Long Thompson. Long Thompson thanked delegates for their support. Long Thompson is the first woman in Indiana history to be nominated for governor by the Democratic party. --- Hundreds File For Federal Aid On Last Day Hundreds of residents stood in what seemed to be never-ending lines on Saturday to file for federal disaster relief. Three-hundred-50 victims received emergency food stamps as part of federal relief from a tornado that hit Indianapolis northeast side earlier this month. Over 650 people were not granted assistance. Those who missed Saturdays deadline for aid can still apply through a more formal process. --- Man Dies When Car Strikes Golf Cart (Brook) -- An 87-year-old Brook, Indiana man died after his golf cart was struck by a car. Officials say the accident happened on State Road 16 at around 4:30 Friday afternoon. Officials say 89-year-old Stella Williams, the driver of the car, was not injured. Officials say while there is a golf course in Brook, the accident was not near the golf course. Kentucky Summary (Louisville, KY) -- A 47-year-old man was stabbed to death Saturday afternoon. Metro Police say Donald Davis was stabbed at a home on Beech Street around 4:15 p.m. Forty-four-year-old Angela Wheeler has been arrested and is being charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence and possession of marijuana. (Louisville, KY) -- Saturday marked the one-year anniversary of a tragic accident at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom where a teenager girls feet were severed. The accident happened while Kaitlyn Lasitter was riding the Superman Tower of Power ride. Lasitter and her parents have sued the theme park, citing poor maintenance on the ride and inexperience from the ride operator led to the accident. The Superman Tower of Power ride was closed after the accident and was dismantled earlier this year. (Louisville, KY) -- U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was in Louisville on Saturday campaigning for John Yarmuth. Pelosi toured the Ford Assembly Plant with Congressman Yarmuth. While at the plant Pelosi went behind the wheel of Fords Escape Hybrid SUV and said, quote, "It is the future." After touring the plant Yarmuth and Pelosi attended a five-thousand-dollar a plant fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. John Yarmuth is facing a challenge from Republican Anne Northup in the fall. Northup lost her seat to Yarmuth two years ago. (Louisville, KY) -- U.S. Attorney David Huber says a federal investigation is underway on the University of Louisvilles campus. Huber says through a statement that there is an ongoing joint criminal investigation between the school, federal law enforcement agencies and the U.S. Attorneys Office. He says the Attorneys Office usually does not comment on criminal investigations but says the office must be sensitive to a different community need when the investigation enters a more public stage. (Covington, KY) -- Final arguments and the instructions for the judge are on tap for jurors hearing the case of Shirley Cunningham Jr., William Gallion and Melbourne Mills Jr. The three attorneys charged with federal conspiracy to commit wire fraud charges in connection with their handling of the millions of dollars in settlement in the Fen-phen case. The three could face up to 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of 250-thousand dollars. (Oldham County, KY) -- A 37-year-old man from Ballardsville, Kentucky was killed Saturday in a single-vehicle accident. Oldham County Police say David Talbott was driving his pickup truck on KY 1818 after midnight when he crossed the center line and flipped down an embankment. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. (Louisville, KY) -- Philips Electronics will move its headquarters out of Louisville. The Mayors Office confirmed the move on Friday. Officials say Philips notified Louisville employees of the pending move a few weeks ago. Mayor Jerry Abramson tried to convince Philips to keep its operations in the city but company officials wanted to consolidate operations. Philips officials did promise to keep the city in mind for future opportunities. (Vine Grove, KY) -- A Vine Grove man was killed Friday night after the lawn mower he was riding on was struck by a car on KY 144 near the Meade County line. According to the "News Enterprise" 43-year-old John Boughton died at the scene after a car driven by 21-year-old William Hutcherson of Radcliff struck him shortly after 10 p.m. Hutcherson was arrested and is being charged with driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license. Boughtons toxicology reports are pending. (Louisville, KY) -- Fourth Street Live! will host a free "Party On The Plaza" featuring Gavin DeGraw later this month. The event will take place on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The concert is sponsored by Miller Light and free parking will be available at the PARC garage along Fifth Street between Muhammad Ali and Liberty after 6 p.m. DeGraw broke through in 2003 with the release of his debut album, Chariot, which sold over one-million copies and earned platinum certification. (Louisville, KY) -- The American Red Cross is holding a "Type-O Only" Blood Drive throughout the afternoon. The event is being held because of the chronically scarce supply. Officials say infant Sebastian Adams is in dire need of type-o negative blood to live after inheriting spherocytosis, which is a blood disorder that causes the spleen to kill red blood cells. The blood drive will be held from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Louisville FOP Lodge at 6204 Price Lane Road. The FOP is sponsoring the blood drive because Sebastian Adams is the son of a local police officer. (Covington, KY) -- Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo and his bride Allie Patrick are presumed to be on their honeymoon. The 47-year-old Hazard physician and his 22-year-old bride were married Saturday at the St. Marys Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington. The lieutenant governors office hasnt indicated if the Mongiardos are on a honeymoon or if he plans to be back at work in Frankfort today. (Radcliff, KY) -- Last week a Radcliff man was appointed to serve of the Kentucky Board of Dentistry as a citizen at large. The announcement was made by State Representative Jimmie Lee to Allan Francis. Francis will serve on the nine-member board, which consists of seven dentists, a hygienist and a citizen. Francis was a finalist for the Martin Luther King Jr. Citizenship Award earlier this year. (Louisville, KY) -- A public meeting will be held tonight to discuss a proposal for a retail center along Taylorsville Road. The project is still in the preliminary stage and will need a zoning change. A public hearing has been set for 6:30 p.m. at Portland Christian School. Illinois Summary --- Two Killed Sunday By Chicago Police (Chicago) -- Chicago police shot and killed two people on Sunday on the citys South Side. The first shooting happened near East 85th Street and South Oglesby Avenue around 1 a.m. A police spokesman says the officers fired at 39-year-old Shapell Terrell after he confronted them with a gun. Independent Police Review Authority spokesman Mark Payne says two guns were recovered at the scene. But Terrells family says the Hammond man was outside with several children, and would not have opened fire on officers in front of kids. The second shooting happened around 7:15 Sunday evening, in the 68-hundred block of South Aberdeen. Officers say they were responding to a domestic disturbance when an armed man confronted them. Police returned fire, killing the man. Officers say they recovered a gun from the scene. The Independent Police Review Authority is reviewing both shootings. --- Searches To Continue For Teen Missing In Fox River (Oswego) -- Searches will resume today for a young man who may have drowned in the Fox River near downtown Oswego. Officials with the Oswego Fire Protection District say five teenagers were swimming in the river Sunday afternoon when one of them, an 18-year-old male, was taken underwater by a strong current. Eight rescue boats searched for the man, but had to stop looking at nightfall. --- ComEd Workers Help Out In Iowa (Chicago) -- Fourteen ComEd workers and five of the companys trucks are in Iowa to help turn Cedar Rapids lights back on. That town was hard-hit by record flooding on the Cedar River in recent weeks. Alliant Energys 22-story building sat in seven-feet of water at one point, causing heavy damage to switching equipment and cables. The ComEd workers will repair their high-rise expertise to repair those systems, which frees up Alliants workers to hook up about 20-thousand customers still in the dark. The workers will spend about a week in Iowa. --- South Side Reverend Delivers First Homily Since Controversy (Chicago) -- A controversial pastor is once again giving fiery speeches at his home parish on Chicagos South Side. Father Michael Pfleger today celebrated his first Sunday Mass at St. Sabina 1/81/8 suh-BYE-nuh 3/83/8, since returning from a leave of absence imposed by Cardinal Francis George. The Cardinal asked the pastor to take two weeks off after Pfleger made mocking remarks about Senator Hillary Clinton during a guest sermon at Chicagos Trinity United Church of Christ. Pfleger said Sunday that he has chosen to be an activist, and he will not let his faults or imperfections allow him play it safe or be silent. --- Cubs Sweep Sox With 7-1 Win (Chicago) -- Round one of the Crosstown Classic went decisively to the Chicago Cubs. They swept the White Sox in this weekends three-game set at Wrigley Field. Third baseman Aramis Ramirez 1/81/8 uh-RAHM-iss ruh-MEER-ez 3/83/8 led the charge for the Cubs in last nights 7-1 victory, hitting his fourth home run of the series in the fifth inning. Ramirez had the tying and winning home runs in Fridays 4-3 Cubs win, and a three-run homer during Saturdays 11-7 victory. The Cubs host Baltimore for three games beginning Tuesday, and the White Sox are in Los Angeles, but then the two Chicago clubs meet at U.S. Cellular Field on the South Side for a three-game series next weekend. --- Three Charged In Joint Stabbing, Shooting Attack (Chicago) -- Court appearances are scheduled this morning for three people charged in connection with a fatal dispute on Chicagos South Side. Police say 34-year-old James Hobson of Chicago and 18-year-old Steven Cohn of Gary are charged with first-degree murder for the shooting death of 32-year-old Michael Tyner. Twenty-four-year-old Latoya Smith of Chicago is charged with attempted murder after Tyners wife was stabbed in the ear. Hobson and Smith both live near where the early Friday incident happened, in the 64-hundred block of South Justine Street. Police say Mrs. Tyner was stabbed during an argument, and Mr. Tyner was shot in the chest when he tried to help her. Mrs. Hobson remains hospitalized in good condition. --- No Bond For Man Charged With Taylor Murder (Chicago) -- A judge has denied bond to a Chicago man accused of raping and killing a 71-year-old woman in her South Shore apartment. Dorothy Brown Taylor was found strangled last Monday at her home in the 72-hundred block of South Coles Avenue. Police say 25-year-old Danelo Solis of the 34-hundred block of West 37th Place is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated criminal sexual assault. Solis is also charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, in connection with the death of Taylors dog. Solis worked doing odd jobs and repairs for Taylor and her neighbors. Police arrested Solis Friday afternoon. --- FEMA Teams To Inspect Winnebago Flooding This Week (Rockford) -- The flood zone around Rockford will get its visit from federal officials by the end of the week. FEMA teams say they will inspect the damage from this summers flooding in Machesney Park starting on June 30th. The federal teams are expected to stay until about July 3rd. Its FEMAs latest trip to the Rockford area which has been hit by a number of floods over the past two years. FEMA will determine a damage price tag, and then help people recover either with low interest loans or grants to those hit hardest by the flood waters. The Rockford-area visit is just the first for FEMA. Teams will also have to inspect flood damage in southeastern Illinois, and of course along the huge trail of destruction up and down the Mississippi River. --- Nader To File For Illinois Ballot Today (Chicago) -- Illinoisans could have at least one independent option when they head to the polls to choose the next President. Ralph Naders independent campaign tells the "Chicago Tribune" it will file more than 50-thousand candidacy petition signatures with the state Board of Elections today. Thats double the amount necessary to get on the November ballot. Nader picked up more than 100-thousand Illinois votes as the Green Party candidate in 2000. --- Boy Killed By Car Identified (Chicago) -- Theres still no word on why a car struck and killed a ten-year-old boy Saturday night in Chicagos Austin neighborhood. Police say Martell Jones was in the street in the 49-hundred block of West Chicago Avenue when the car hit him shortly after 7:30. Jones was pronounced dead on arrival at Stroger Hospital.
