Gloucester Mayor Cannot Confirm Pregnancy Pact
(Gloucester, MA) -- The mayor of a Massachusetts town hit by talk of a pregnancy pact says she hasnt been able to confirm the agreement.
At a news conference, Gloucester Mayor Carolyn Kirk said information about a student pregnancy pact at Gloucester High School hasnt been verified by any other independent source.
A "Time" magazine story said nearly 20 girls at the high school allegedly made a pact to get pregnant and raise their babies together.
"USA Today" reports 18 girls at the high school learned they were pregnant this year.
Some reports said some of the babies were fathered by adult men.
Kirk said Gloucester High School principal Joseph Sullivans memory of how he got the information about the pregnancies was, quote, "foggy." Kirk said, quote, "his memory failed." Sullivan was not among officials who appeared at the news conference.
