Henderson Co. Hires a Coach

By: Doug Kufner
Updated: June 18, 2007
In a bizzare twist of events within a twelve hour period, the Henderson County Colonels finally have a new head football coach. Just five days after he was hired, Jay Cobb resigned his new position early Monday morning. Cobb will return to Somerset, Kentucky, where he will resume his coaching and teaching duties. Cobb told Henderson School officials that his decision to resign was based on his family. The Colonel family then went with Clay Clevenger. Clevenger had served as offensive coordinator at Lincoln County High in Stanford, Kentucky. Lincoln County was the top rushing team in 4A football last season, averaging about 290 yards per game. They finished 10-2 with Clevenger as offensive coordinator. Clay Clevenger also won two state titles as a player at Danville High.
