Ed Martin Will Challenge Koster for Attorney General in November

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Republican Ed Martin will challenge incumbent Attorney General Chris Koster this fall.

Martin won his party's nomination Tuesday night, beating Livingston County Prosecutor Adam Warren, of Chilicothe. Martin served as chief of staff for former Governor Matt Blunt.

"I got into this race because I saw an opportunity to make a difference in favor of Missouri values, including freedom and limited, effective, honest government," Martin said late Tuesday. "Liberals like Chris Koster are at the center of a Jefferson City political machine that is out of control, corrupt, deaf to the Missouri majority, and heedless of the state and federal Constitutions."

Koster, who was unopposed in his party, has served as Missouri Attorney General for four years. He thanked his supporters in Springfield Tuesday night.

"Well I don't know that much about him [Martin], but really this race is about who is going to be the state's chief law enforcement officer. Do you have the experience in the courtroom? Have you been there putting away the bad guys? I've spent my entire adult life with a badge in my back pocket doing this work in the courtrooms of Missouri. He's never tried. There's not a lot to say beyond that."

Martin has said the state has too many rules and regulations. During campaign stops in southwest Missouri, Martin said if he's elected, he would form a task force to go over state rules and regulations.

"Maybe we have regulations that are obsolete, that need to be eliminated. That's another good project that I think an attorney general could look and say this isn't working."
