Owensboro Riverfront on Hold

The city of Owensboro has promised residents a gorgeous new waterfront park.
Right now that project is at a standstill.
Wednesday was the deadline for contractors to bid for the first phase of the project.
Those interested say they arent ready to formally submit their bid so the city has extended the deadline to September third.
More than ten contractors are looking to build the Riverwall, but theyre telling the city they need more time to watch the steel market. Steel is the walls main component. Theres no long range pricing on steel, so that means you order it at one price but you have to pay however much it costs the day it leaves the mill With steel prices going up exponentially theres no time to waste.
Until the city awards a bid it looks like Smothers Park on the riverfront will be the same as always.
As the bidding continues on the wall, the city is opening the floor for public comment on the parks design.
The first forum will take place September eighth at 6:30 in the Riverpark Center.
