Owensboro native Brad Wilkerson agreed to a one-year contract with the Texas Rangers on Tuesday, worth $4.35 million. Wilkerson, 29 years old, hit .222 with 15 home runs and 44 RBIs in 95 games last year, his first with the Rangers. He had season-ending surgery on his right shoulder in August, but is expected to be ready for spring training and will likely be the starting left fielder. Wilkerson played his high school baseball at Apollo and was named Kentucky`s Mr. Baseball in 1995. He was a three-time college All-American at the University of Florida and was a collegiate player of the year award-winner as a junior in 1998. Wilkerson won an Olympic gold medal for the United States in 2000 and previously played for the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals.
