John Elliott has resigned as Tell Citys head football coach after three years on the job. Elliott told FOX 7 Sports that he submitted his resignation to the school board last Friday.
He says several things contributed to his decision, including the long back and forth to Tell City (Elliott still lives in Evansville) and the poor practice conditions. He also told the Perry County News that he "didnt feel the commitment was there from the administration to take the football program to the next level."
Elliott was 13-18 with the Marksmen, including a 5-6 record this past season in which the team won its first section game in seven years. He led Tell City to a 6-4 record in 2006 and was 2-8 in 2005.
Elliott, who has coached for a total of 31 years, says hes open to returning to the sidelines if the right situation presents itself. If not, he says hes also fine with taking a break from the game.
