The inauguration signifies the realization of a dream for the African American community. Photographs taken today will be timeless reminders, much like famous photographs of Dr. Martin Luther King. One man responsible for immortalizing key moments of the civil rights movement is Owensboro native Moneta Sleet. sleet took the famous photo of coretta scott king veiled in black at dr. kings funeral. he followed king around the world taking photos. he documented the civil rights movement, capturing images of rosa parks and malcom x. sleet died in 1996. moneta sleet was also the first african american to win a pulitzer prize for one of his photographs.
