Former UE Baseball Player Charged With Sexual Abuse on Child

A former University of Evansville athlete is facing some serious charges.

Anthony Molina was arrested Wednesday, in his home town of Moline, Illinois, and charged with five counts of predatory sexual assault, and two counts of sexual abuse on a child.  Beyond that, police are being very tight lipped about the case.

You may remember, Molina was a star player on the UE Baseball team back in the late 90's.  In 1999, Molina made national headlines, not for his ability on the field, but for what happened to him prior to the start of a game at Wichita State.

Molina, who was UE's lead-off batter, was taking practice swings about 20 feet off of home plate, when Wichita State Pitcher, Ben Christensen, who was also warming up, threw a ball that crushed Molina's eye, and as many believe, any dreams he had of going pro.

Christensen wound up being suspended for the rest of that season, and eventually paid a cash settlement to Molina.
