No bottle rockets, no roman candles, and no sparklers this 4th of July, but many people agree with Mayor Lloyd Winnecke's decision to ban fireworks in the River City. Mayor Winnecke declared a local disaster emergency Friday, giving him the power to ban personal fireworks. But there isn't as much uproar as expected, we took a poll on our website asking what Evansville residents thought of the Mayor's decision and almost 100% sided with the Mayor. Stateline Fireworks Owner David Barancik says although business comes from all over, his local customers have been taking a step back. Barancik says the weekend before the 4th is usually jam packed, and believes some customers are going to stock up and hope for the weather to change. Barancik says in light of the ban, Stateline plans to stay open later in the season, in case conditions improve. Mayor Winnecke says the seven day ban carries fines of up to $2,500 for those who disregard the ban. At the end of the seven days, Winnecke says he'll continue the ban if there's still no relief from the heat.
