UPDATE: Victim Identified in Gibson County Accident

UPDATE: The Gibson County Coroner has identified the victim in an overnight accident on SR 56 as 62-year-old Joseph Kunkel of Patoka. Sheriff's deputies say Kunkel was headed west bound on 56 around 2:30 a.m. when he rounded a curve, left the roadway and struck a tree. Kunkel had to be extricated from the vehicle. Deputies say he was wearing a seat-belt. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

PREVIOUS STORY: The Gibson County Sheriff's Office is handling its eighth car fatality in eight weeks. Saturday morning around 2:30, the Gibson County Sheriff's Office investigated a fatal car accident on State Road 56. Officials say a 1998 Lincoln 2 door car was west bound on SR 56 exiting a curve when the vehicle left the north side of the road, hitting a tree, this is west of Jack Horral Road. The driver of the vehicle was wearing a seat belt, the airbag did deploy but deputies say the driver was fatally injured. No skid marks were found on the road and assisting units were called to help extricate the driver from the car. This is the seventh car accident involving eight fatalities since May. the identity of the driver has yet to be released, Eyewitness News was on the scene, we'll have more coming up tonight at 6pm on WEHT Local.

Most of thse are not accidents. they are caused by speeders and wreckless drivers,and it will get worse unless the limit s are lowered and inforced
