Train Hits Pedestrian In Mount Carmel

Police in Mount Carmel, Illinois, have released the name of the man hit by a train Friday afternoon. Police say 31-year-old Kevin Baise of Mount Carmel was hit by an oncoming train while walking on the railroad tracks near Walnut Street. They say the train's horn sounded, but Baise did not get off the tracks. Baise was treated on scene and airlifted to Deaconess Hospital. No word on his condition. Police continue to investigate the accident.

New information on that pedestrian train accident in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. It happened around 4:30 p.m. near Walnut St. Mt. Carmel Police Chief Jeff Besing says a man, believed to be in his 20s, was walking on the tracks when a Norfolk Southern train approached. We are told the train horn was sounded. Police say the man did not leave the tracks and was hit. He was taken by medical helicopter to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. His name has not been released pending notification of kin.
Traffic came to a standstill, but crews were able to clear the scene. We will keep you updated with new information when we receive it.
