breaking news
Everyday is a snow day for Muhlenberg County school children, at least until next Monday. After losing almost 100% of its power Tuesday night, the county is only now starting to function again -- except for schools. Days off of school are quickly losing their luster for parents and even students.
Bus lots have turned into untility repair staging areas. Muhlenberg school children have been absent from school for a week, and itll be at least a week more until doors are open again. Besides falling behind on curriculums and having make up days in the summer, another concern is making sure kids are getting everything they need. The schools supply lunch everyday, lunches some students might not get otherwise.
But shelters are offering small meals three times a day, so some feel having children out of school will work out as long as the shelters are taking care of them.
Some are wondering how much longer supplies will last. Muhlenberg County officials say theyre prepared for that; the county was hit by a tornado almost exactly one year ago. They say having dealt with that disaster has helped them respond faster during this one.
