Evansville Police are looking for a man they say is connected to this
weekend's carjacking and police chase. It started early Saturday morning
on Covert and Vann after an incident at Ginny's Place. We now know the
name of the suspect police say forced a man to drive at gunpoint, its 20 year old Malcom Payton. As new details continue to surface, EPD says
the three men involved knew each other. Now, it's crucial to put the
missing suspect behind bars. EPD Sergeant Jason Cullum says the driver,
Isaac Hooker picked up Darius Happoldt and Malcom Payton Saturday and they
had large duffel bags full of marijuana. Although EPD never blames a
victim, Cullum says putting yourself in dangerous situations can result
in dangerous consequences. Payton has five felony warrants and Cullum
says he's armed. A ruthless man police say our streets are better off
without. Darius Happoldt was arrested on scene and charged with
carjacking, criminal confinement and other charges. He's due in court
Wednesday morning. The driver faces no charges at this time. Detectives
are encouraging anyone who knows anything about Payton or where he is to
contact police.
