Grants Available For Recycling Efforts

Updated: February 6, 2009
Grants Available For Recycling Efforts (Frankfort, KY) The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) says there are grants for purchasing playground cover and other products derived from waste tires. Through the grants, KDHE hopes to encourage the production of commercial products including playground cover made from recycled Kansas waste tires. The efforts benefit waste reduction by removing material from the waste stream to conserve landfill space and reduce the need for new solid waste facilities. This is the third year of the relatively new grant program following several years of grants to Kansas tire recyclers to purchase equipment to process tires into a usable raw material. Local governments are eligible to apply for funding which will provide up to 50 percent of the total cost to purchase and install eligible products made from waste tires. Last year, 61 grants were awarded to local governments primarily to purchase playground cover.
