Evansville Animal Control officials say the city is nearing an epidemic, overpopulated shelters. Both the Vanderburgh Humane Society and Animal Care and Control say they're running out of room, for the first time in years the VHS is not accepting animals, its been doing so for a month. The VHS also shut down its Monday Food Bank. But its not alone, the need for services are high but the volunteers and support isn't nearly as close. Brenda Huffine with "Another Chance for Animals" works exclusively with Evansville's Animal Control to eliminate overpopulation and find loving homes for animals. VHS Executive Director Kendall Paul says low funds, staffing and support has put a stop to the intake process. Between the VHS and Animal Control, officials say they take in close to seven thousand animals a year. They're asking for the public's help. Animal officials also stress the age old expression of having your pets spayed and neutered.
