Another meeting another low turnout for discussing a new area code in western Kentucky. Only eight people showed up for tonight's Henderson meeting at the UK Extension Service Center.

Area code 270 is projected to run out of available numbers by 2014. Telecommunications providers have recommended an overlay, which would create a second area code in the area. While few people showed up for tonight's meeting, one person has a reasonable concern about the change in numbers.

"I'm about to open a business," said new business owner Johnny Boucherie, "and as a fledging small business, I need to know what they're going to do because I will need to create signage, business cards, and letter head. I don't need it changing right after I do that."

The next meeting will be held in Owensboro Middle School's auditorium on Wednesday. You can also e-mail your concerns. Just head to psc.info@ky.gov and type "Area Code 270" in the subject line.
