The Ford Center has hosted everything from concerts and, of course, the Evansville icemen. Today, what's become an Evansville landmark, hosted its own birthday bash. Getting the new arena up and running was a task, as you can imagine. But people we spoke to say, it's worth all the work. And today, for the first time, skate fans were given a chance to hit the ice just like their hometown team, the Icemen. "first public skate we've had. So, its just, if you haven't been down here in the first year, come on down, try it out," says Ford Center Executive Director Scott Schoenike. It was obvious the biggest feature of the day was, "skating!" Schoenike says,"Some of the Icemen are going to come down and skate."
Sam Frushour brought his children down for the birthday celebration. He tells us, "This is great, what do you guys think, skating here with the pros, where the pros skate." It was fun, even if your not one of the pros. "He stays on the side the whole time, and i fall most of the time," skaters Drew Carlton and Jaydon Summers tell us.
A good time for locals and even though experiencing the excitement Ford Center has to offer for the very first time. "It is the first time to the Ford Center. To see such a wonderful facility in our area, within driving distance of Ferdinand," says Chatty Bolte. No doubt, Ford Center is celebrating a successful first year. And those who run the arena are hopeful they'll have many more good years ahead. "Everyone should come see this if there's an opportunity," says Bolte. "It's great.good, good, good, and fun. Describing words, there you go."
