Interstate 69 is inching closer and closer to Indianapolis, dozens of elected officials and supporters were on hand to celebrate two thirds of I-69 opening including Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke, Congressman Larry Bucshon and others. After more than half a century of studies, construction, and standstills, almost 70 miles of I-69 is opening and the Hoosier State unveiled this stretch of road in a lively fashion. Governor Mitch Daniels is leading a parade celebrating I-69's route on his motorcycle. But he says this ride wasn't an easy one. Many Indiana officials say jobs are the biggest gain, followed by increased safety. The ribbon is cut and Daniels says its been a long road, but one he hopes to continue to travel, and hopes many other Hoosiers will as well. The next section of I-69 from Crane to Bloomington is set to be completed by the end of 2014.
