It's the last time we'll see a unique date like today, 12/12/12. It won't happen again in our life times. This special day has many people celebrating in a variety of ways. Some take advantage of the special event as an opportunity to deliver their baby. We caught up with one of the expecting couples right before delivery.
The women's hospital is a busy place today because of the date, 12/12/12. Expecting couples chose today's date to deliver, and hospital staff say they were excited to cooperate.
I met Tammy and Tim Smith just a half hour before it was time for them to welcome their new baby girl in to the world. Two excited heart beats can be heard, the mother and the new daughter. Everything is ready to go for a C-section delivery, but what makes this day even more exciting is the actual date. "Everybody is excited about this being the only date that we will ever see in our lifetime of 12/12/12. It will happen again a hundred years from now," says father Tim Smith.
This couple says it was not their idea to have this historic delivery, instead it was their doctor who chose today as the delivery date. "She suggested it, Dr. Kay did, and we thought it sounded like a great birth date so here we are," says Smith. "It's just the way it worked out, the way the doctor had scheduled it."
So, the proud parents decided to take this rare opportunity knowing it was a once in a lifetime chance. "Well, we are shooting for twelve o'clock and he's even thinking twelve-twelve. There's no way to know that, but just get to the baby and get her out. Either way it doesn't matter," says Tammy. "If they are going to wait until twelve, why not wait until twelve-twelve, twelve minutes after twelve." says Tim.
Despite the date or time of delivery, these expectant parents are just excited to welcome their newest addition. "Its just a special day for her. Its special anyway for all of us, but she's got a special birthday," says Smith. "I hope its something that will be special to her as well as our other daughters, but it will be one that she won't forget, or us either."
Baby Molly was delivered at twelve-twelve on the dot weighing eight pounds two ounces.
