UPDATE:  A week after a deadly house fire in Mount Vernon, another Tri-State county is dealing with a tragic fire.  This time, in Wayne County.  Around 5:00 Friday morning, crews rushed to a fire in the 700 block of  South West Fifth Street in Fairfield, Illinois.  Fairfield Police say 42-year-old Steven Milner and 43-year-old Sherri Fulcher died in their mobile home.  A dog also died in the fire.

Officers on patrol Friday morning say they could smell the smoke, and tracked down the source.  When they arrived at the home, it was filled with flames.

There's a sense of disbelief in this small Fairfield neighborhood.  A mobile home destroyed by fire and two lives taken with it.

"I feel terrible because it started in the kitchen apparently, and I usually get up at 4:00 in the morning and when I know I have to work the next day and I usually go out and first thing I do is feed my dog and I would've noticed something, I just wish there was something I could've done about it if I was up at that time," Justin Webb said.

The Fairfield Police Department provided these pictures of the victims, Steven Milner and his girlfriend Sherri Fulcher.

"I got a lot of memories with Steve. He's always made you laugh," Webb said.

Police Chief Brad Winter tells me officers spotted the fire and broke a window to see if anybody was home.  But the smoke and heat were too much.  Investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen.  The two bodies were later found in a bedroom at the opposite end of the trailer.

"I don't think they were able to make any attempt to get out, I think they died in their sleep," Chief Brad Winter said.

Chief Winter says a carbon monoxide detector was sounding when firefighters entered the home.

Police say no foul play is suspected.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

PREVIOUS STORY: Another deadly house fire in the Tri-State.

The Fairfield, Illinois Police Department says two people died in a mobile home fire just after 5:00 Friday morning.

The Fairfield Poilce Chief says officers on routine patrol spotted the fire and tried to get in the home, but were driven back by the smoke and heat.

Firefighters arrived just a short time later, and when they got inside, the bodies of 42-year-old Steven Milner and 43-year-old Sherri Fulcher were found in a bedroom.

Investigators say they think the fire started in the kitchen, however, the investigation is ongoing.
