Small Businesses Need State Funds

By: Sarah Lovett
Updated: February 25, 2009
While Western Kentucky officials fill out mountains of paper-work to get state money after the ice storm -- small business owners dont have anywhere to go for help. Representatives from the federal emergency management agency were in madisonville teaching local government how to add up costs. Officials say documenting every expense is the key to getting money from frankfort, but theres no similar process for business owners, at least not yet. The key is to get an assessment to the small business association then get information to people to let them know how to apply for assistance assuming it becomes available. As for individual assistance, FEMA representatives say Frankfort doesnt have the time or information to determine what, if any, help they can afford. Theyre estimating damage from the storm at 200-million dollars in Kentucky alone.
