Red Cross Wants You Protected in Earthquakes and Other Natural Disasters

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke is proclaiming this week as Earthquake Awareness week in the River City. But both the mayor and the Red Cross want the entire tri-state to be aware of these natural disaster since we lie near both the Wabash Valley and New Madrid Faults. The tri-state isn't known for dozens of earthquakes a year but it has seen it's share, most recently in Illinois just a few months ago. The Red Cross is doing its part to prepare families with this emergency kit, officials say families must keep one around as the weather is unpredictable and can strike at any time. As we've seen so far this winter from 70 degrees, to tornadoes to freezing rain, it's better to be safe than sorry. "Tornadoes will come through this area with that unpredictability we've seen that already, thank goodness we didn't have any major issues that required our services in last week's storms but it's always an occurrence. I think with the unpredictable weather in the Central U.S it's something we have to always be prepared for" says Regional CEO Amy Canterbury.
