Late Tuesday afternoon, Vanderburgh County Sheriff Eric Williams confirmed what sources had been telling Eyewitness News reporter Jordan Vandenberge.
Sheriff Williams says the allegations made against Deputy Stuart Mosby and his subsequent resignation stem from an internal investigation within the VCSO.
However, sources with direct knowledge of the situation also tell Eyewitness News this isn't the first internal investigation into Deputy Mosby.

For more than 17 years, Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Deputy Stuart Mosby worked for the VSCO.
His tenure ended Tuesday night.
Vanderburgh County Sheriff Eric Williams says prior to Mosby's immediate resignation Tuesday night, Mosby had been placed on administrative leave while the VCSO conducted an internal investigation.
The allegation of Mosby's so-called 'ghost employment' first surfaced following an internal audit.
Sources tell Eyewitness News the investigation stems from allegations that Deputy Mosby logged hours on his time card that he actually didn't work. Sources say the hours Mosby falsely claimed to have worked were from a federally funded saturation patrol or sobriety checkpoint within the past few months.
However, Deputy Stuart Mosby used to be Sergeant Stuart Mosby.
That was until November 2012.
Sheriff Eric Williams tells Eyewitness News Deputy Mosby resigned his rank of sergeant last year as part of a 'different and unrelated administrative investigation.'
Sources say that October-November 2012 investigation resulted in a 15 day unpaid suspension for then-Sgt. Mosby. That suspension was served in mid-November, according to sources.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the most recent allegations continues even if Mosby's tenure at the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office does not.

Sheriff Williams tells Eyewitness News his office has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the investigation into Mosby's alleged 'ghost employment.'
Sheriff Williams says his office is waiting for guidance from the NHTSA on where to go next.
Our calls to Stuart Mosby were not immediately returned.
We will continue to follow this story.

Statement from Vanderburgh County Sheriff Eric Williams
Deputy Stuart Mosby did tender his resignation to me yesterday to be effective yesterday. Mosby had been on administrative leave while our office conducted an administrative investigation related to alleged improprieties on his part related to the submission of documentation for one of the traffic grants. The allegation originated from an internal audit conducted by our office.
The granting authority has been notified and briefed on the status of our investigation. We are now waiting for guidance from them.
