After warnings from the FDA in 2007, 2008 and 2011, it wasn't until January when Purina issued a voluntary recall on behalf of one of it's subsidiaries. The pet food giant recalled their Waggin' Train and Canyon Creek Ranch brand dog treats after the FDA found links to harmful residues on the treats which can cause kidney failure in pets. Problem is, you may still find these products still on store shelves at steeply-discounted prices. Now, two Tri-state dog-owners say those dangers can be found in other Purina products and they have the vet bills to prove it.

When he wears a jacket, she wears a jacket. When she isn't feeling well, he doesn't feel well.

If dogs reflect their owners, Ed Georges and his dog Abbie are living proof.

"She's a Chinese crested powder puff," said Georges. "But she's not made in China."

But Abbie's treats are and Georges believes that's what made her sick.

He's not alone.

Hundreds of complaints have been filed against Purina which led to the pet food giant's voluntary recall of Waggin' Train brand dog treats.

"I'll never buy another Purina product again," said Travis Clapp.

It's hard to fault Clapp after what he and his dogs have gone through the last week. First, Riley, his Yorkie, had radiation poisoning. A day later, Sammy, his Chihuahua, had salmonella poisoning.

Both of them ate the tainted treats.

"Purina's done a voluntary recall but stores are not being forced to take them off the shelves," said Clapp. "Instead, they're selling them at a discounted rate so people think it's a great buy. But they'll buy it and then they're stuck with a $1000 vet bill a week later."

Clap speaks from experience. The last week has been filled with return trips to the veterinarian. Luckily, it appears the dogs will make a recovery. Clapp just wants to make sure other dog owners don't have to go through what he's gone through.
