In fact, the institute says there are currently more than 50,000 jobs in the state that are open right now. That will be the focus of a series of workshops being held in Evansville this March. The workshops are aimed at preparing Indiana's youth for the jobs that are out there. A spokesperson for the Indiana Youth Institute says it's an opportunity to close the information gap and get more people in to steady work.
"People don't have the right qualifications," said Bill Stanczykiewicz, "and those qualifications often take just one year to earn a workforce credential or two years to earn an associates degree. If we can get that message out to kids and their parents, those jobs can be filled."
The workshops will be held on March 6, in Evansville. Morning and evening sessions are available. For more information, contact the Indiana Youth Institute at (800) 426-6559 or jshrode@iyi.org
