EXCLUSIVE: Murder Witness Speaks Out, Asking More People to Come Forward

After our special report, Heart to Heart aired Thursday, capturing the sit down of Evansville Police Chief and a grieving mother, a man who says he witnessed the murder comes forward. This witness say he watched what he calls a brutal execution of Derrick "Brian" Jackson killed on Evansville's south side back in October 2011. He tells us after seeing the report, he's shocked people aren't speaking up as he did minutes after Jackson took his last breath. In this exclusive interview, Eyewitness News Tabnie Dozier takes us to the scene. Jackson's murder remains unsolved as detectives say they are struggling for anyone to commit to naming a suspect at trial, but Ronald Ritter who doesn't know any of Jackson's family, he says the unspoken rule he follows, is take care and help your fellow man. The crime scene tape still on the ground of an almost two year old murder scene. Ronald Ritter walks us through a day he say he'll never forget, "I was talking to the lady across the street, when we heard the first four initial shots, I said well that sounds like that came from the backyard I'm gonna go take a look and I walked to this point and I could see a man walk around to the side of the house but I didn't see no one else because he (Jackson) was on the ground." "Then I heard, pray to your momma and then he walks over and smacks him in the head with a gun again and then shoots him four more times." Ritter says all he could do was stand in shock, scared the suspect might shoot him too. But he did do something. talking to detectives minutes after the crime. Ritter thought the murder had been solved but after seeing the Heart to Heart Special Report, he says he couldn't believe investigators have not captured the suspect after getting leads the day of the murder. He doesn't know the murder suspect so he's posting signs near the murder scene pleading with others to speak up because it's the right thing to do. An act he says takes little effort but can literally change the lives of a mourning family, and a community known for keeping things bottled in.
