Time is running out for Kentucky lawmakers to help the financially troubled pension system for government retirees. The pension system is $33 billion in the hole. The Senate passed a measure earlier this month that requires the state to fully fund it, but it didn't specify where the money would come from. The House is considering a variety of options to pay for it, including raising the cigarette tax to $1 a pack. We are now past the halfway point in the current legislative session. Governor Steve Beshear says he may call a special session if lawmakers adjourn without a plan.
