Apollos state championship dreams came to a crushing end on Friday night in the KHSAA semi-finals at Applebees Park in Lexington. Second-ranked Lexington Paul Lawrence Dunbar scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to eliminate the Eagles 3-2. Apollo ends a fantastic season at 31-12. The Eagles scored first in the third inning on a Skyler Shown RBI single to centerfield that drove in Cameron Hetcher. Apollo struck again in the sixth inning when pinch-runner Logan Robbins came home on an error by Bulldogs catcher Chad Kruger. Dunbar got one run back in the bottom of the sixth and then scored the final two tallies in the seventh to advance to Saturday nights state championship game. The Bulldogs will play Shelby County for the title at 7 PM, Lexington time.
