The countdown started on the Westside with Mater Dei. Now it ends on the Westside. The talent-loaded Reitz Panthers are the number-one team in our annual FOX 7 Top 7 High School Football Preseason Rankings.
The Panthers are as good as it gets on paper. But, all of the preseason press in the world wont mean a thing, if Reitz doesnt back it up on the field. The Panthers certainly have the tools in place to do so, led by versatile quarterback Paul McIntosh.
Reitz head coach John Hart says his senior signal-caller is the best QB in the state. Other Indiana coaches and media members agree. McIntosh has been named to the states "Top 25 Team" and the "Tremendous 26." McIntosh is joined in the backfield by Tyler Julian, whos playing both offense and defense this year.
In addition to Julian, the Panthers return all eleven starters from a defensive unit that allowed just 15 points per game last season.
Reitz is also moving down in class size from 5A to 4A, which makes the Panthers one of the early favorites to contend for the state title.
Reitz opens the 2007 season this Friday night, August 17th against Jeffersonville at the Reitz Bowl.
