breaking news
The Owensboro Museum of Fine Art is proud to present a new exhibit -- but you wont find it in any of their galleries.
The latest additions to the Owensboro art scene are large outdoor sculptures.
Both modern and historically significant, these pieces are beginning to decorate downtown.
Getting some exposure to culture and art is as easy as taking a walk or driving down Frederica street.
The bronze buffalo statue was sculpted by well-known artist T.D. Kelsey
Its the first piece of the museums signature project called the buffalo trace.
Frederica street is the main thoroughfare for the city of Owensboro but thousands of years ago it was a trail for herds of buffalo, commemorating that is what the buffalo trace is all about.
The vision is that in addition to the buffalo on Frederica street, it might be complimented by statues of native americans who hunted here until the early 1800s.
The hope is the statues will decorate Frederica from 11th street to the new waterfront development.
Mary Bryan Hood says mixing art with heritage is a project worthy of a gallery Owensboro citizens can walk through or drive by everyday.
