Kentucky Unsolved Case

Divers are scheduled to return to a rural Daviess County Kentucky lake tomorrow morning. That is the same lake where law enforcement officials recovered a missing van Friday. That van had skeletal remains in it, which are believed to be Bryan Raley, Bill Gross, and James Woodard, who went missing almost ten years ago. A positive ID on the bodies may take two weeks. This lake is in rural Daviess county near Utica. Its quiet and peaceful now, but Friday night squad cars, emergency vehicles and tow trucks were beyond this barricade fishing a van out of a lake. A van thats could house answers to a 10-year-old unsolved case. Theres nothing much around the lake except for a few houses and a couple of farms. " We talked with several neighbors who wouldnt go on camera. They say this seemed like a safe and quiet area but Steve Mayberry begs to differ." "we found just a huge bag of sudafed in our yard, huge, and you know we know what goes on around out here." Sudafed is one ingredient used to make methanphedamine and Mayberry says there have been drug busts in this area several times. Ten years ago suspicions of meth related activity brought ohio county police to the area. They were going to arrest several men -- including Woodard -- but Woodard was never found. Aside from drug related connections, neighbors say theres only one other draw to the area and to that lake. "Well its around an old strip pit, weve known about the lake strictly about the bass fishing is supposed to be great we know people sneak in there and fish all the time." Oil drillers still have wells by the lake and the lake has even been enlarged in the past ten years. Neighbors and investigators have been waiting 10 years to get answers in the case -- but it appears the wait will last at least a few more weeks. Owensboro police and the Daviess county sheriffs department says it could be two weeks before the state medical examiner can confirm the bodies identities. Although they wouldnt release information to the media, law enforcement says they are in contact with the mens families.
