Merfeld resigns as UE men`s head basketball coach

The marriage between Steve Merfeld and the University of Evansville is officially over. Merfeld submitted his resignation Saturday afternoon. During his five year tenure, the former Aces head coach compiled a 54-91 record. Only 29 of those wins coming in Missouri Valley Conference Play, as Merfeld was 29-51 in the Valley. He was 2-5 in the league tournament. The Aces have suffered through eight straight losing seasons. Athletic Director Bill McGillis told FOX 7 he plans to have a new coach in place by the end of March at the very latest. Stay tuned to FOX 7 for continuing coverage of UE Basketball in transition.
