Here are scores and recaps from Tuesdays college and high school basketball games.
The UE mens basketball team is still looking for its first win in the Marty Simmons era. The Aces fell behind 40-29 at the half and lost at Southeast Missouri 87-77. Shy Ely scored a career-high 23 points and Jay Couisnard added a career-best 12 points in the loss. Jason Holsinger finished with 13 points. UE was outrebounded 49-30. The Aces fall to 0-3 on the season and will try to bounce back on the road at Ball State on Saturday afternoon.
The USI mens basketball team was stunned by Illinois-Springfield 68-66 at the PAC. The loss snaps the Eagles 19-game home winning streak and their 28-game winning streak against NAIA programs. Norman Plummer knocked down a jumper to give USI a 66-65 lead late in the game. But, Nick Livas sank a deep three-pointer with eight seconds remaining to propel the Prairie Stars to the upset victory. Plummer paced the Eagles with a game-high 29 points and ten rebounds. Reitz grad Darren Cloud added 18 points. USI (1-1) will try to rebound this weekend when it hosts the inaugural Bill Joergens Memorial Tournament at the PAC on Friday and Saturday.
Kentucky Wesleyan raced to a 23-0 first half lead en route to an 85-61 win over Oakland City at the Sportscenter. Rodney Edgerson led the Panthers with 18 points. Jeff Fahnbulleh had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Maros Zuffa and Maurice Blakey added ten points each. Eric Sanders led the Mighty Oaks with a game-high 28 points.
