Updated: May 31, 2012

David Heckard joined WEHT in December 2006. His Weather Authority Forecast can be seen on the Weekend Editions of Eyewitness News.

David is a native Tri-Stater, growing up in Shoals, Ind. He went on to Purdue University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology. While at Purdue, David was active at the student newspaper, the Purdue Exponent, where he was a staff writer.

David actually began his career as a weather intern at WEHT. He also interned at WLS-TV in Chicago. Prior to joining Eyewitness News, David was a meteorologist at WXVT-TV in Greenville, Miss.

David knew he wanted to be a meteorologist at a fairly young age. He was fascinated by the weather, but especially thunderstorms and tornadoes. He enjoys forecasting in the Tri-State because every day is different.

David has been designated a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) by the American Meteorological Society.

When not tracking the weather, David is an avid college sports fan, rooting on his beloved Boilermakers. He also enjoys watching TV, reading about politics and traveling.
